The football Bears wrapped the 2011 fall camp Wednesday with the completion of their thirdl scrimmage and the annual Meet the Bears Night at Plaster Field. On the third play of the scrimmage, freshman Ryan Heaston darted 99 yards for a touchdown and the first score of the afternoon. He would finish with 7 carries for 119 yards to lead an offense that averaged 5.9 yards per play.

Junior corner James Caine picked off a Kierra Harris pass and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown for the second score and the highlight for the defensive side.

Harris later redeemed himself with a pair of touchdown passes — a five-yarder to tight end Matt Thayer and a 30-yarder to receiver Dorian Buford.

Harris finished 4-for-8 for 59 yards.

In between Harris’ touchdown passes, redshirt freshman Mitchell Jenkins connected with Eric Christophel for a 13-yard touchdown pass to cap a seven-play, 30-yard drive. It was Christophel’s second touchdown in three fall scrimmages.

For the afternoon, the Bears rushed for 183 yards and passed for 122. Jenkins was an efficient 7-for-11 through the air for 55 yards, and Buford led all receivers with three catches for 56 yards.
