The superintendent of one of Missouri’s largest school district has surprised his school board by announcing he’s quitting after only two years on the job. And Kansas City superintendent John Covington is leaving in 30 days. No reason has been given for the resignation but Covington and board president Airick West have been disagreeing about the way an $85 million contract is being awarded to modernize district buildings.Â
The state education department says the district has met three of 14 state standards used to determine accreditation. Last year the district met four of them. Districts usually have to meet at least six of the standards to be provisionally accredited and nine of 14 for full accreditation.
