St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan has taken a leave of absence to look after his ailing wife who had surgery on Sunday night. Due to additional tests and rehab, Duncan was granted an extended leave by the organization.

Duncan and his family requested privacy and they are optimistic for his wife’s outlook. Bullpen coach Derek Lilliquist has assumed some of the pitching coach duties. Duncan left the team in Chicago on Saturday.
