St. Louis native George Hendry, whose prowess at ping-pong put his face on Wheaties boxes, has died at the age of 90, one year after he won his last championship.

Hendry was 16 when his table tennis championships led to his two years  as a face of Wheaties boxes. He gave up the sport for about 30 years after he married and started a family and ran a business. By the time he returned to the game he was playing in seniors competitions. He won more than 40 national tournaments in his age group and was still playing until he suffered a stroke three weeks ago.
