Girl who says Republic Middle School didn’t protect her from rape now suing

August 22, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

Greene County’s chief juvenile officer confirms that a boy from the Republic Middle School was found guilty in juvenile court more than a year ago of raping another student and sentenced to time in the state division of youth services. He has confirmed to the Springfield News-Leader that the conviction tied to the case of a girl who claimed he had raped her a second time.

The case has generated protests against the school district because the girl was suspended from school for making a false report of the first rape. A suit has been filed on her behalf against the school district. At least two people plan a protest at tonight’s Republic School Board meeting.
