In front of a national TV audience, the Cardinals were able to avoid a sweep in Chicago by hitting four home runs, two off the bat of catcher Yadier Molina as the Redbirds won the series finale 6-2.

Albert Pujols went 4 for 5 and hit his 31st home run to take over the NL lead and Jon Jay homered as well with all four homers coming against Cubs starter Rodrigo Lopez who made it just 5.1 innings.

Jake Westbrook picked up his 10th win going seven innings, allowing two runs. The score was 3-2, when Molina hit his second homer of the game to right field in the sixth to give the Cards some extra insurance.

Jason Motte and Fernando Salas pitched perfect innings to close out the game and keep the Cardinals 8.5 games behind Milwaukee (who swept New York) and the same distance out in the Wild Card chase.
