In reaction to last weekend’s shooting of three teenagers within yards of the Mayor, on Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza, the council has revamped the youth curfew.

Different time limits for different young people, during different seasons in different parts of the city. That’s how the Kansas City Council revised the city’s youth curfew. Mayor Sly James says it’s all about life in the moment.

While police are concerned of unintended consequences by rushing the new ordinance, the Mayor says if there are problems this weekend, they can change it again.

The curfew in the city’s 5 entertainment districts during the summer months will be 9 pm for those 17 and under.  Also during the summer a citywide curfew of 11pm for 16 and 17-year-olds and 10 pm for those younger than 15.  The rest of the year the regulation will be 11 pm for all those 17 and under, citywide. Parents of violators can be fined up to 500 dollars.
