Obama issues disaster declaration for flooding

August 13, 2011 By Brian Hauswirth

President Obama bas declared a Federal Disaster Declaration for the flooding in Missouri this spring and summer. The declaration means those affected in Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Holt, Lafayette and Platte counties can apply for federal assistance for uninsured losses from flooding that has affected the state since June 1. Eligible uninsured losses include expenses like temporary housing, home repair and replacement of household items. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is reviewing Gov. Nixon’s request for assistance to local and county governments that would allow them to apply for assistance for their response and recovery expenses associated with the flooding.
