Rays sweep the Royals

August 11, 2011 By Bill Pollock

The Royals had 11 hits, but were held to just one run as the Tampa Bay Rays completed the four game sweep with a 4-1 win on Thursday afternoon.

Alex Gordon single to lead off the game, moved to second on a bunt, stole third and scored on Eric Hosmer’s ground out. After that, Jeff Niemann allowed eight hits, but got out of a jam in the sixth inning striking out Gordon with the bases loaded and two outs.

Danny Duffy took the loss for KC, giving up three runs in seven innings. Blake Wood pitched the ninth and gave up a run as well.
