Chiefs sign last draft pick, Wiegmann proud of his streak

August 6, 2011 By Bill Pollock

The Kansas City Chiefs signed the last of their nine draft picks on Friday morning, coming to terms with third round pick Justin Houston. The coaches wasted little time getting him involved in his first practice yesterday in St. Joe.

“What Justin needs to be focused on is that he’s here now,” Head Coach Todd Haley said. “I’ve talked about the rookie learning curve, and he’s got his work cut out for him. And so do we, because we’ve got to give him a chance to succeed.”

One player who is on the back side of that learning curve is 38 center Casey Wiegmann, who just wrapped up his ninth season of taking every snap, a streak that is at 10,141. The 16 year vet hasn’t missed a snap since opening the post-9/11 game against the N.Y. Giants in 2001.
