Nixon says job creation is more important than federal dollars for MO

August 4, 2011 By Brian Hauswirth

Governor Nixon says he knows Missouri will get less money from the federal government as the debt reduction talks continue. He says if Missouri focuses on other things, the problem of less money is less of a problem.

Nixon says legislators are working on their economic development bill for the special session. He says some parts are more complex than others, so it’s taking a while. He says they’ll vote on that in September.

Federal dollars make up about a third of the state’s budget. Last year the federal government gave out 800 billion to states.
