Blunt says last year state and local governments got 800 billion dollars from the federal government, and that’s way too much.

Blunt says all states will get less money from the federal government in coming years. He says they should have seen it coming after all the federal aid they’ve gotten in the past.

Blunt says states have to balance their budgets, so the federal government should as well. He says states need to look at their own budgets and start making cuts where they need to, because the federal government has reached its limit.

He says in a year or two he’d like to propose a balanced budget amendment to the US constitution, so this type of discussion never has to happen again. He says states would be in favor of it, because 49 our of 50 states have to balance their budgets each year.

Blunt says he has no desire to be on the committee that will recommend where else to make cuts. Once this committee makes a decision, states will know just how much they stand to lose.
