Governor wants presidential primary addressed in special session

July 22, 2011 By Mike Lear

Governor Jay Nixon says he will ask the legislature to pass a bill to move the date of Missouri’s presidential preference primary in September’s special session.

During the regular session the General Assembly passed a bill to move that date to comply with rules of both the national Republican and Democratic parties. The Governor vetoed that bill, however, over provisions dealing with municipal and special elections.

He wants to see the 2012 primary moved to March 6th. It is currently set to happen February 7th.
