If you paint it, they will come. At least, that’s what crews hoped as they painted lines on the practice field at Missouri Western State University for Chiefs training camp. With the NFL labor dispute and player lockout ongoing the camp is in doubt, but community leaders in St. Joseph hope it will happen.

A study by the University shows fans spent 21 million dollars in St. Joseph last year. Sales Manager Lindsay Bernard with the Visitors and Convention Bureau says that is spent at the town’s restaurants, hotels and other businesses.

Vice President for University Advancement Dan Nicoson is the interim atheletic director at Missouri Western. He says representatives with the Chiefs told him a week ago that they want to hold training camp there if at all possible.

A full camp generally lasts three weeks and is scheduled based on factors like the Chiefs’ preseason schedule.
