Before Tuesday night’s Royals-White Sox game, manager Ned Yost held a 20 minute meeting and told his players that 20 games under .500 is not the type of ball that will be acceptable. Rookie Danny Duffy and the team responded with a 4-2 win over Peavy and the Sox.

Duffy allowed the two runs in the first inning then came back to finish seven strong innings. Matt Traenor’s two run single in the sixth, pushed the Royals ahead of Peavy who is now 1-4 lifetime at Kauffman Stadium. Melky Cabrera homered and Alcides Escobar drove in the other run for the Royals.

Back to Duffy, apart of the Royals six-man starting rotation. “I was really affected by what he (Yost) said,” said Duffy. “We’re playing for more than just this team. We’re playing for the fans.”

Duffy hit the first batter he faced, walked the second on four pitches and allowed both to score, needing 64 pitches to get through the first three innings on another sweltering night. However, Duffy settled down after that and allowed five hits and two walks while striking out six.
