You may have heard that Japan beat the U.S. to win the women’s soccer World Cup. Japan also beat the U.S. in women’s softball.

On a national team that featured Mizzou pitcher Chelsea Thomas and outfielder Rhea Taylor, the U.S. lost two games to Japan in the Canadian Open Fastpitch Championships on Sunday in Surrey, British Columbia.

Chelsea Thomas pitched in six games and had a 3-1 record with one save and a 1.57 ERA. Chelsea’s only loss came earlier in the day to Japan when she gave up an unearned run in the seventh inning as the U.S. loss 4-3. Rhea Taylor went 2 for 4 against Australia in a 6-1 win to advance to the finals. In the Championship game, Japan beat the U.S 7-0. Thomas came on in relief and gave up three runs in 2.2 innings. Taylor finished the tournament hitting .406
