Catherine Dolan of Ballwin, MO has emerged the winner of the 73rd MWGA Women’s Amateur Championship shooting a final round 71. Defending Champion Ellen Port had a three shot lead going into the third round, but finished in third.
The key was a two shot swing on Bellerive Country Club’s second hole set the pace for Catherine’s 34 on the front side to Ellen’s 38, making Dolan up by one at the turn. On the 12th hole, Port’s tee shot found a creek just right of the tee, and forced her to re-tee, ending up with a double bogey on the hole. Catherine birdied the par 3 thirteenth to increase the lead, as Ellen finished with a 78 for the day, taking third place.
Kayla Eckelkamp of Washington, MO shot a final round 67 (seven birdies, two bogeys) to take second place and the Cassett Trophy home. Mike Tucker, head professional of Bellerive Country Club states ” Eckelkamp’s 67 is Bellerive’s women’s course record post our 2006 Reese Jones redesign”.
