ESPN Sports Center anchor and former Mizzou Alum John Anderson hosted his celebrity golf tournament on Monday at the Columbia Country Club. The event helped raise $20,000 for the Central Missouri Food Bank, $22,500 was raised for relief efforts in Joplin, and another $20,000 went to Columbia Public Schools.
Despite a huge demand, there are only about 12 camps across the country for Wheelchair basketball which is gaining popularity. One of those camps is taking place this week on the University of Missouri campus. Missouri wheelchair basketball coach Ron Lykins says the main goal is to make them better basketball players, but it also gives attendees the opportunity to learn more about being independent and confident. It’s also a great recruiting tool for Mizzou. Two camp members from Minnesota, Joe Dixon and Robert Doyle, said they plan to attend MU next year and play for the Tigers. Dixon and Doyle played on the same junior wheelchair basketball team, winning three national championships and a gold medal in the Australian Youth Paralympic Games.
2001 Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch, who was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, but never played a game in the NFL is getting a shot to play for his hometown Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League. The 32 year old last played in the Canadian Football League in 2006. Crouch may have had one of the greatest runs in Nebraska history, a 95 yard touchdown run against Missouri at Faurot Field.
