Golfers withstand heat in opening round of women’s amateur championship

Temperatures at Bellerive Country Club hovered at 97 as the MWGA Women’s Amateur Championship began it’s first round. Defending Champion Ellen Port has a two shot lead over last year’s runner up, Drury Senior Katrina Choate.

McCall Christopher of Indiana State is in third place with a 74. Kayla Eckelkamp of Maryville University shot a 75 to finish round one in fourth place. Missouri State University senior Catherine Dolan finished with a 77 to tie Kelli Kirchoff of Wentzville for fifth place.
