The western Missouri federal prosecutor who launched major efforts against the Kansas City mob in the 1960s has died at the age of 88. President Kennedy had appointed Russell Millim in 1961. Millin served until 1967. The Kansas City Star reported many years after he left office that he had prosecuted more “big name” criminals than any other federal prosecutor up to that time.

Millin ran for state office twice and lost both times, one for attorney general in 1968 and again for the Missouri Senate in 1976.
