People from 24 states have gone to Joplin during the weekend for the humane society’s adopt-a-thon. They’ve taken hundreds of dogs and cats orphaned by the May 22 tornado. One of the new pet owners drove from Gallup, N.M., to adopt a puppy that he has named “Joplin.” Another person adopted a dog he named “F-5,” for the intensity of the tornado that hit the city.
