State Fire Marshal Randy Cole says with thew start of fireworks season comes the making and selling of illegal fireworks. Cole says illegal fireworks aren’t just those that are illegally bought from outside sources. Home made fireworks are also illegal.

Cole says that’s dangerous because each year people make their own fireworks and end up hurting themselves. Sometimes, they mass produce and sell them to neighbors. He says sometimes teens and young adults will buy legal fireworks and try to remake them into bigger devices. He says this is often when people get hurt in the process of making fireworks.

Firework season is June 20 through July 10. Each area in the state has different regulations for what fireworks are legal for people to use. Cole says no matter what, it’s a good idea to have a source of water nearby in case something goes wrong.
