Royals allow just five hits, but lose

June 23, 2011 By Bill Pollock

The Arizona Diamondbacks only managed five hits the entire night against the Royals, but four of those came in the fifth inning as the D-backs scored three that inning to win 3-2.

The Royals couldn’t do much against Arizona starter Ian Kennedy who is now 8-2 for the NL West Division leaders. Kennedy threw six strong innings and allowed one run on eight hits, while striking out four and walking two to lower his ERA to 2.90. In his past 13 starts, he is 7-1 with a 2.16 ERA.

Xavier Nady hit an RBI double, that was followed with an RBI single and a squeeze bunt to get Arizona’s runs.

The Royals scored off Kennedy in the third inning when Chris Getz and Melky Cabrera singled. Getz came home when Eric Hosmer grounded into a double play. Hosmer’s triple in the seventh off Micah Owings scored Getz, who had three hits.
