Missouri water being released from upstream increases

June 22, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

The Corps of Engineers is stepping up the amount of water going into the lower Missouri River from the Gavin’s Point impoundment on the Nebraska-South Dakota border.

The reservoir has been releasing 150,000 cubic feet per second. The Corps says heavy rains in Nebraska and South Dakota in the last two days have forced it to make the flow 160,000 cubic feet. Officers say the increase would elevate the river stages by less than a foot at St. Joseph and Kansas City.
