A homeless man charged in the killing of another man in a Columbia homeless camp is expected to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action today. The prosecutor had charged Travis Birkhead with second-degree murder but has accepted a plea agreement for a reduced charge. The prosecutor and Birkhead have agreed on an 18-year prison sentence. Another man charged in the killing pleaded guilty two weeks ago and is serving 20 years.
