A St. Charles County grand jury has indicted the brothers who ran the nation’s largest extended warranty company on 27 charges.  Fourteen charges against Darain Atkinson and 13 more against Cory Atkinson accuse them of stealing, insurance fraud, and unlawful merchandising practices in their operation of US Fidelis. The company alsow as known as National Auto Warranty Services and Dealer Services.

Attorney General Chris Koster says it’s a complicated case that is part of the state’s efforts to get the extended warranty business into a more legitimate standing..

If they’re convicted, the brothers could face enhanced sentences because they’re prior offenders.  Darain Atkinson has state and federal convictions in Kansas for theft, forgery, burglary, and making counterfeit federal reserve notes.  Cory Atkinson has a past conviction in Kansas for criminal trespass.

Both have been arraigned and ordered to forfeit their passports so they don’t flee the country.
