A petition is being circulated to increase Missouri’s cigarette tax, which at 17-cents a pack is the lowest in the nation.
Secretary of State Robin Carnahan has approved circulating a petition calling for a November 2012 vote on raising the tobacco tax in Missouri by $1 per pack.
The proposal says it would raise between $20 and 100 million dollars in tax revenue, which would be used for tobacco education and smoking cessation programs.
