House Speaker Steve Tilley says his Interim Committee on Disaster Recovery will survey the areas affected by several natural disasters. He says this is not only reactive to tornado victims in St. Louis and Joplin, but proactive for future flood victims. He says 12 to 14 legislators will make up this committee that will tour the affected areas to make assessments.

The committee will have to give a report to Tilley by the end of July, and then to the legislature by the end of the year. The committee will work with local governments to make their recommendation.

He says he chose the committee carefully. He chose the Speaker Pro tem as the chair and a Representative from Joplin to be the vice chair of the committee.
