Norris stymies Cardinals again

June 9, 2011 By Bill Pollock

Houston Astros’ starting pitcher Bud Norris may as well be called Chuck Norris to the St. Louis Cardinals. He carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning and his only hit allowed was a home run to right by Lance Berkman that just cleared the wall in right field. Cardinals lose 4-1. Norris is now 5-2 with a 2.66 ERA against the Cardinals in his young career.

Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia (6-2) allowed seven hits and three runs in five innings.

Norris walked the leadoff batter in the first, fourth and fifth innings but faced the minimum through five thanks to three double plays by Houston’s defense. The Cardinals lead the majors in double play balls.

The home run for Berkman was his 14th, which match what he had all of last year with Houston and the Yankees.
