St. Louis man pleads guilty to running counterfeit operation

June 7, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

A man has pleaded guilty in federal court in St. Louis to running a counterfeit check scheme that ripped off businesses and banks for $400,000 to $1 million. Karyn Sumlar says he and co-conspirators ran their scheme in three states. One of the checks was a fake Florida Lottery check.

He’ll be sentenced later by a St. Louis federal judge.
