Columbia shelter settles lawsuit

June 7, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

A Columbia domestic violence shelter has settled the lawsuit filed against it by the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission by agreeing to pay $103,000.

The EEOC had claimed True North Incorporated retaliated against two women employees who reported sexual harassment by the former director of the shelter. One of the women who claimed the former executive director had touched her inappropriately was fired. The other was demoted. Executive Director Leigh Voltmer resigned.
