Albert Pujols went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored and his home run in the bottom of the 12th gave the Cardinals a 5-4 win over the Cubs.

This was only Pujols’ second game with multiple extra-base hits of the season, and he drove in four runs. Pujols hit a two-run shot off Randy Wells in the fourth and his RBI double chased Wells in a two-run sixth that tied it.

Meanwhile the bullpen did a great job from the seventh inning on. The Cubs didn’t get a hit after Carlos Pena’s infield single with one out in the seventh. St. Louis relievers retired 17 in a row to end it, with Eduardo Sanchez striking out two in two perfect innings to get the win.

Pujols’ walk off homer came on a slider down and away, pretty good pitch from Jeff Samardzija, which looked like the plan. On T.V. replays you could see the Cubs’ pitcher say “No ‘expletive’ way.” Even he couldn’t believe Pujols had the power to pull that breaking pitch into the Cubs’ bullpen beyond the left field wall.
