Francis settles down as Royals take care of Angels

June 1, 2011 By Bill Pollock

Royals left handed starter Jeff Francis looked shaky early, but settled in and pitched seven strong innings and rookie Eric Hosmer drove in two runs in a five-run third as the Royals beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-3 on Tuesday night.

Alex Gordon and Chris Getz both had three hits and Jeff Francoeur drove in two runs and leads the Royals with 32 RBIs. It was just the Royals’ fourth win in their last 17 games.

Francis gave up two runs in the first inning and threw 35 pitches. He was up to 66 after the third, but then got some run support in the bottom of the third.

Chris Getz had a one out bunt single. Former Cardinal, Joel Pineiro picked up a throwing error to second base on Alcides Escobar’s comebacker that moved Getz to third. L.A. should have been out of the inning. Instead, Gordon and Melky Cabrera hit RBI singles, and Hosmer’s double scored both. Billy Butler’s two-out single scored Hosmer.
