The popularity of soft drinks in schools is reflected in the pitch being made to the Springfield School board today by the Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. The bottling company is offering more than 560-thousand dollars to the school district for a five-year exclusive contract. They are offering to stock vending machines in schools with soft drinks, water, and sports drinks–but no energy drinks. The district is demanding every vending machine be equipped with timers that will keep students from buying drinks during the school day.
