Cardinals rally late to top the Giants

A three run 8th inning got Chris Carpenter off the hook for a loss, as the Cardinals rally to beat San Francisco 4-3. Albert Pujols and Allen Craig hit RBI doubles and Skip Schumaker got the go ahead single to give Ryan Franklin the win.

Franklin pitched a scoreless 8th by striking out the side for his third straight appearance in which he hasn’t allowed a run. Then the Cardinal bats attacked the San Francisco bullpen.

Jon Jay and Pujols opened the eighth with doubles off Sergio Romo. With one out, Craig doubled off Javier Lopez to tie it and Schumaker’s hit came with two outs. Schumaker broke a 2 for 19 slump with his slow roller between first and second and he beat second baseman Freddy Sanchez’ throw with a head first slide.
