Governor Nixon calls this afternoon’s meeting with Joplin church leaders one of the most inspirational moments of his public career.  He says they will be dealing with “a lot of pain” within their congregations for some time to come.

The governor has been in the tornado-scarred area of Joplin and says he felt as if he were walking on a “hallowed ground of a battlefield.” City officials say the death toll has reached 125.

Nixon says he does not know what kind of a building code could be written that would allow buildings to withstand the kind of tornado that attacked Joplin Sunday evening.
