A national environmental group puts the Ozarks National Scenic Riverways on its list of the nation’s ten most endangered rivers.

American Rivers puts out its ten-most endangered rivers list every year.  This year it includes the Current, Jacks Fork, and Eleven Point rivers that are in the Ozarks Scenic Riverways, a national parks system designation.

Spokesman Amy Kober says the system is being “loved to death” by thousands of people every year. She says the National Park Service is not properly managing access to the system and protecting the rivers from over-use.

American Rivers also gives special emphasis to the Mississippi River.  She calls this year’s major floods a “wake-up call” for river managers who need to restore flood plains and wetlands that will soak up floodwaters, provide clean water and wildlife habitat—and give greater protections to communities
