Kansas City had the unenviable task on Friday night of taking on a pitcher coming off a no hitter.  The Royals had no answers as Detroit’s Justin Verlander no hit them for almost 6 innings and the Tigers go on to win 3-1.

Melky Cabrerra would break up the no hitter in the 6th with a triple that would score Alcides Escobar who had walked.  Kansas City would get just two more hits over the next three innings.

Verlander finished the night after eight innings, giving up just two hits while striking out seven.

Luke Hocehvar took the loss for the Royals.  He is now 3-4 on the season.

This afternoon, Jeff Francis takes the hill for the Royals.  He will be looking for his first win of the season.

The Tigers will start former Cardinal Brad Penny.

Game time is 3:10.
