Missouri Western baseball continued to pound out eleven hits and have baserunners in eight of the nine innings, but drop a 4-2 decision to top seeded Central Missouri in the MIAA Baseball Championship at Community America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas. The loss drops the Griffons overall record to 26-24 and puts them in the 7:00pm game against the loser of Emporia State and Nebraska-Omaha.

Missouri Western started had a similar start as they did yesterday putting runners in scoring position in each of the first five innings, but could not get the timely basehit to score any runs. Central Missouri opened the scoring with a solo home run by Frank Specht to put the Mules up 1-0 after four innings.

Western took the lead in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Tony Loeffler and Zach Kroymann. Central Missouri tied things up in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Jon Wegener.

Griffons starting pitcher Matt Bergin threw seven and two thirds innings, but couldn’t get out of the seventh as the Mules plated two runs with two outs to take a 4-2 lead. Western would provide a little drama putting runners on first and second base with one out in the ninth, but Spencer Shockley’s ground-out double play ended the game.

Missouri Western was lead offensively by Jason Solma and David Chew who both were 2-for-4 adding to Kroymann’s day where he was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
