What could be a two months trial has started of a lawsuit filed by a dozen Herculaneum residents who claim they have suffered from lead poisoning. The 12 say lead dust from a smelter has caused them various physical and mental problems. The lawsuit is against three companies that operated the smelter in the 1980s and early 1990s — Fluro Corporation, Doe Run Investment Holding Corporation, and A. T. Massey Coal Corporation.

We earlier reported incorrectly that the present Doe Run company is one of the defendants.  The Doe Run Investment Holding Corporation has no present relationship to the Doe Run Company or to the Herculaneum smelter.
