St. Louis drops to 57th largest city in U.S.

May 9, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

St. Louis, which was the nation’s fourth-largest city at the start of the 20th century, has slipped to 57th after the latest census. That’s down nine positions on the list. The last time St. Louis was so long on the rankings was 180 years ago — when it was 57th among cities in the 1830 census.

The 2010 St. Louis census shows a population of 319,294, down more than eight percent from 2000.
