Springfield court shuts down foreclosure scam

May 6, 2011 By Jessica Machetta

A Springfield court has shut down a foreclosure scam that cost some homeowners their homes. The Attorney General has gotten a consent judgment against Brian Thompson requiring him to follow the state’s merchandising practices law. He also has to make $51,000 in restitution.

The Attorney General says Thompson told homeowners facing foreclosure that he could stop those proceedings if they transferred ownership of their homes to him, which he would then lease back to them.  Some homeowners wound up losing their property and the equity they had in it.
