As the calendar gets ready to change, it seems maybe the St. Louis Cardinals are on the verge of throwing their season into high gear.  The Redbirds picked up their third win in a row as they start a weekend series against the Atlanta Braves with an extra inning 5-3 win.

To get the game to extra innings, the Cardinals would have to rally in the 9th. Daniel Descalso would drive in his 2nd RBI of the game to tie the score at 3.

The 11th would start with Ryan Theriot getting hit by a pitch.  This would be followed by a walk to pinch hitter Mark Hamilton.

With two out, Nick Punto would be the hero for St. Louis as he would drive in two runs with a triple.

Eduardo Sanchez picked up the win, his first in the majors, while Trevor Miller would get the save.

Chris Carpenter started the game for the Cardinals, but would not factor in the decision.  He still does not have a win on the season.

The Redbirds will try to make it four wins in a row when they play game two of the series this afternoon.  Jake Westbrook will get the start.

St. Louis Cardinals game time is 12:10.
