The latest effort by a senator who wants to send a message to Washington about overspending has failed in a hostile state senate.
St. Louis Senator Jim Lembke, who led the filibuster against federal support for extended unemployment benefits, has tried to remove 26-million dollars in federal stimulus money from a plan to improve the Kansas City to St. Louis Union Pacific rail line.Â
Lembke says rejecting the money tells congress to quit overspending. Several other senators have jumped on Lembke’s idea with both feet–including Warrensburg’s David Pearce.
Another senator has told Lembke his efforts won’t do anything. Still another says she’s a taxpayer, too….and thinks Missourians would only hurt themselves by sending the money back.Â
The voice vote against Lembke’s latest effort was a message itself–a loud “no.”
