For any Cardinal fans who are taking in this weekend series at Dodger Stadium can be comfortable knowing that security will be stepped up for visiting fans at the ballpark. After an assault in the Dodger Stadium parking lot that critically injured a San Francisco Giants fan on opening day, the Dodgers are taking several measures to cut down on violence.

For starters, according to the L.A. Times, they have cancelled plans to sell alcoholic beverages at half price at six midweek day games this season which won’t affect this series, but Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said last week that he believed alcohol consumption contributed to problems at Dodger Stadium.

The Cardinals are the first team back at Dodger Stadium since that opening series where Bryan Stow, who was beaten, still fights for his life.

Before the game Thursday, the Dodgers will hold a news conference to discuss additional security measures. I was listening to ESPN’s report on Thursday morning and the Dodgers plan on increasing the number of police officers on duty, plus plan on hiring off duty cops to dress in opponents colors to be strategically placed throughout the stadium.
