Cards put up big runs, but not enough for Carp

April 13, 2011 By Bill Pollock

It was one of Chris Carpenter’s worse outings of his career. He allowed eight runs in four innings on eight hits, including two homers and two doubles as the Cardinals lost 13-8 Tuesday night in Arizona.

The Cards were down has much as 8-3 at one point and pulled to within 9-8, but reliever Bryan Augenstein gave up a three run homer in the sixth. He would later leave with a groin injury.

Lance Berkman, Colby Rasmus and David Freese all went deep for St. Louis, which banged out 16 hits, including five for extra bases. Albert Pujols went 3-for-5, getting his batting average back to .200.
