The trial set for accused child murderer Alyssa Bustamante has been continued to Sept. 12, after it was first set for May, then June. Bustamante’s attorneys have encountered scheduling complications that would prevent them from being able to prepare for the trial in time, they say, and Judge Patricia Joyce has agreed to the request to continue.

Bustamante is accused of killing 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten in rural Cole County — outside of Jefferson City — and burying her in a shallow grave. Bustamante was 15 at the time of the murder. She’s now 17.
