Basketball notes: Maya goes #1, Carroll cut

April 12, 2011 By Bill Pollock

University of Connecticut basketball star Maya Moore was chosen as the number one overall pick in the WNBA draft yesterday by the Minnesota Lynx. Moore lived for a time in Jefferson City, Missouri. Lee’s Summit native Danielle Adams who just led Texas A & M to the women’s NCAA title was picked 20th overall by San Antonio. The WNBA begins it’s 15th season this June.

Former Missouri Tiger DeMarre Carroll was waived by the Houston Rockets on Monday. Carroll played in 12 games this season with the Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies averaging less than a point and a rebound and getting less than five minutes a game. Carroll was the 27th overall pick by the Grizzlies in 2009.
