Missouri has joined the legal challenge to the federal healthcare overhaul law — but in a limited way.

Attorney General Chris Koster has filed a friend of the court brief in Florida’s challenge. His filing says the federal law requiring individuals to maintain health care coverage or pay a penalty violates state law adopted by voters last August. The filing questions whether individual citizens not engaged in interstate commerce can be forced to carry insurance on the basis of the commerce clause of the federal constitution.  But Koster makes it clear in letters to House and Senate leaders that he supports the rest of the federal healthcare act.
