A Jackson County judge has approved a settlement between the Kansas City police department and 50 people who say its officers wrongly seized their property. Those 50 people will split $1.2 million. The judge has told the police department to pay the lawyers for the group an additional $1.4 million. The 50 people in the suit had accused police of improperly giving the seized property to the federal government, a violation of state law.
